Sing Out Young began in the summer of 2006 as an experiment in the home
of Timothy and Tina Mair. Their goal was to try and teach some music and
have fun.
After that first summer, it was such fun that Tim and Tina decided to
continue the experiment. The project took up a large portion of their house
for a long time until in February of 2008 the program was moved to its
current location.
Since the first summer Tim has wanted to bring his love of theater and
experience to the program with a summer camp.
Timothy started singing and dancing when he was still wearing diapers.
Along with his brothers he studied dance locally with Paula Sever. At
Bonneville High School he played Doody in the musical Grease as a
sophomore and was active in drama for all three years of high school lettering
in drama each year. Junior and Senior year he sang with Tapestry and the
Concert Choir lettering in music both years and received a two plus rating and
a one rating at state solo and ensemble competition his junior and senior years
respectively. While at Bonneville, Tim started the singing group Duo2. Upon
graduating from Bonneville High he went to Southern Utah University and
received much recognition particularly for his performance as Il Marito in the
opera Amelia Goes to the Ball which helped him win the award for best male
vocalist from the music department that year. Tim transferred to Weber State
University in 1995. He founded the vocal group, Vocal Junction, that
performed throughout the Wasatch front. He has performed in plays locally
since then and had many solo singing opportunities. He now directs the Sing
Out Young Children’s Choruses and teaches beginning voice lessons. He
writes music including many popular genres as well as choral and orchestral
pieces. Tim recently released his first album, Outside, showcasing his popular
music. Prior to the Pirates of Penzance sing-in he played the role of Sipos in
Village Green’s production of She Loves Me.
